Road Test: Silverlane HA03B Hardwood Claw Hammer
“I first started using hammers when I was 13 years old in my woodwork class at school. The hammer soon became my tool of choice for hammering in nails”.
“Over the years I have experienced many different kinds of hammers; sledge hammers, toffee hammers, MC Hammer and lots more. None of these compare to the quality of Silverlane hammers. So, you can imagine our excitement at the announcement of the Silverlane HA03B”.
“The HA03B comes beautifully packaged in Silverlane’s signature cardboard sleeve, exuding quality. A lighter, soft grain, pine handle distinguishes it from it’s older brother. Holding it is an ergonomic dream come true, it feels like an extension of my own arm. A slight increase in the handle’s diameter means it would be wise to check size compatibility with your tool belt before purchasing. I have to admit, the head’s darker, galvanised steel finish isn’t quite my cup of tea, but that’s just personal preference”.
Overall verdict:
Despite it’s good looks, accuracy and promising manufacturer reputation, the HA30B does not live up to our high expectations set by it’s predecessor. We’d recommend this hammer to a low to moderate DIY’er, or to people that we don’t like, but if you’re more serious about hitting things then you really can’t go wrong with the ‘03A.
